Weird Movie Village is celebrating its fifth anniversary!
The first laugh MST3K got out of me was probably in “A Date with Your Family.” My cousin, who is a passionate MSTie, had a tape of almost every aired short and had brought it over along with some of her favorite episodes. I walked in at some point during the shorts, I think during “The Home Economics Story.” Seeing my bemusement, she explained the premise and I sat down to watch.
So the first laugh I really remember, and the one that got me to ask her for copies of her favorite episodes, is “Brother has a tight psychological grip on Junior.” And it wasn’t just a laugh; by the end of the short I was laughing so hard I was in physical pain. I couldn’t breathe and I had tears streaming down my face and I was gaspingly quoting the riffs. It was glorious.
I wish that I’d watched MST as a kid because it would have been great to spend my teenage years with a show that shares my sense of humor. But discovering it late was great, too.
